Welcome to SOUTH MELBOURNE DISTRICT LITTLE ATHLETICS CLUB
South Melbourne District Little Athletics Centre operates on Sundays from 9.30am until 12.00pm, at Oval 1, Albert Park, offering fun and fitness to children aged five to 13. Oval 1 is located at the Fitzroy Street end of Albert Park, near St. Kilda Park Primary School (Melways Ref 58 A8).

The centre is affiliated with the South Melbourne District Sports Club and the Victorian Little Athletics Association, and is supported by the South Melbourne Athletics Club.

The season starts on Sunday 10th of October and continues until mid March. There is a Christmas and January break as well as a break for the Melbourne Cup weekend. The first two sessions (October 12 and 19) are "try before you buy". So come along and see if you like it!

Who is Little Aths for?Boys and girls aged five or above as of 1 October 2008 (proof of age is required before official registration).

What are the activities?Age-appropriate running, jumping and throwing-based activities, such as sprints and middle distance running races, high jump, long jump, javelin and hurdles.
Children compete against their own personal times, and keep their results in their own handbook.

UniformAll registered children will be provided with a T-Shirt and competition number. It is recommended that children also wear a sunsmart hat and have a water bottle (with names please).

What do parents need to do?Remain at the centre with your child or children, and help them to complete the activities. Parents are invited to help set up, time, measure, rake up after and help conduct the events, under the supervision of our Chief of Officials.

We need six parents every week to volunteer as event chief, which means they are in charge of conducting that event, with the help and technical advice of visiting VLAA athletics coaches/officials and local athletes.

The event chief roles will be rotated, but if you can make a regular commitment it would be an enormous help.

Seeking committee membersThe committee of the new centre is seeking volunteers to fill several positions, please call Adriana Tiziani on 03 9525 4959 if you are able to volunteer. (Committee meets monthly.)

Can my child compete more seriously through Little Aths? Our centre will offer the chance to compete in the Southern Metro Regional and State competitions. Extra coaching in certain events can be offered through a sister club in Port Phillip, if desired.

Cost:The registration fee is $95 for the first child, $90 for the 2nd and 3rd child and $85 for subsequent children. This covers the whole season, October to March.
