Jack Gavin wins the John Scholes MedalLangton
Jack Gavin was awarded this year’s John Scholes Medal for the Best Finals Player at Under 14s and Under 16s level. Brendan O’Sullivan presented Jack with the Award which will be recorded on the Tim Larsen Memorial Shield (see picture above). It will hang proudly in the Club Rooms as the only current Perpetual Trophy in existence at the Junior Cricket Club.

The Tim Larsen Memorial Shield was recently generously donated to the Club by members of the local Community in memory of Tim Larsen who lived locally and loved his cricket.

Tim sadly died at the young age of 30, five years ago and his partner and closest friends wanted to donate this beautiful Shield to the Club when they heard of the vandalism that occurred at our Club Rooms earlier this season.

The South Melbourne District Cricket Club is thrilled to receive such a wonderful Shield, and is very proud of Jack Gavin’s most deserved achievement this year. Jack was Co-Captain of the Twilight U14 A Team who made it to the Semi Finals and gave the eventual winners a run for its money. Jack starred in the Semi Final with a threatening score of 39 and an outstanding bowling performance of 1 for 17 (off 7 overs). He was a well organised and inspirational Captain.

Brendan O’Sullivan (Jack’s Coach last year) was particularly proud to present the Award to Jack being so aware of his outstanding cricketing skills.

Well done Jack – we will be keeping a careful watch on your progress in years to come!

Congratulations to our Under 12 Gold Team who made it to their Grand Final and had a real hot go at winning it. Unfortunately, this year they just did not quite make it against an excellent team….but there is always next year. Well done boys. We are very proud of your efforts. .

Our Under 12s Gold Team in the Grand Final!
U12 Gold

Our brilliant Under 12 Gold Team has battled its way to the Grand Final by one run. In a breath taking finish in its 1st Semi Final against the supposedly the top team, West Bentleigh, our bowlers and fielders held their nerve to pull off a well deserved win. Congratulations to all players, Coach (Jim Hiotis), Team Manager (Tim Peters) and supporting parents who have together built a wonderful cricket team.

Congratulations from everybody at South Melbourne Districts Cricket Club. Unfortunately, this year they just did not quite make it against an excellent team….but there is always next year. Well done boys. We are very proud of your efforts.
