4 South Melbourne teams lining up for Finals action
In one of the most competitive cricket years on record, 4 of our 9 South Melbourne junior teams that can play in Finals are lined up to make Finals action in March. Our two Under 12 Modified teams play in gradings that do not play Finals matches.

This is an outstanding prospect for our Under 16A Team (fourth with 1 game to go), our Under 14 A and B Team (both lead their grading league tables with 1 game to go) and our Under 12 B Team (second with 2 games to complete). This is surely a direct reflection of the Training Coaching that has been invested in our players at South Melbourne.

All of our other teams have been very competitive and are in many cases unlucky to just be missing out on Finals action. Importantly, every team has given of their best and both the results and the sheer enjoyment levels have been at an all time high. Congratulations to all Training Coaches, Team Managers, Administrators, supportive parents, and above all, players.

Good luck to all teams and players in the last couple of Rounds. We will all watch your progress with great interest.

Happy 100th Birthday Middle Park CC
We wish our alliance Club, Middle Park CC a Happy 100th Birthday. What a fantastic achievement and what a great contribution Middle Park CC have made to young cricketers in our community. We at South Melbourne Districts Junior Cricket Club are proud of our alliance with Middle Park CC and long may it last and thrive.

Importantly we record our Club’s involvement in Middle Park CC’s celebrations at a Special 100th Birthday luncheon on 24th January. Our Club President, Noel Jones and Secretary, Kerry Boulton attended together with a number of Junior Cricket Club luminaries including Bryce Anderson, formerly our Junior Cricket Club Secretary who talked to the growing bond between our Clubs.

More significant is the outstanding level of activity between the Clubs that so far this season tallies no less than 25 of our South Melbourne District’s junior players from both Under 16 and Under 14 grades as well a 7 fathers (from our Over 40 grades!) have played for Middle Park CC. We are delighted to record that 3 of our junior players have been called up to play in the 1st XI team. In all cases, our boys have performed outstandingly and received the strong support and encouragement of Middle Park CC players.

This is a wonderful development for both Clubs. Great credit is due to Middle Park CC’s President, Paul McNamara and the Club’s Head Coach, Craig Palma. Their foresight and determination together with Bryce Anderson’s quiet liaison between the Club’s has made this one of the success stories this season. Everybody is a winner. Middle Park CC are tapped into a talent bank called South Melbourne Districts and our young players are offered and provided with the opportunity to hone and develop their cricket skills at senior level on turf.

To all that have made it happen and to all that have benefitted, that is, our boys (and Dads!), bring on the next 100 years.
